ARTIST STATEMENT

Finding the freedom to express that which is unseen and unspoken is real freedom. My work emanates from a place of quiet introspection that aims at complete self-expression. By delving inward and exploring the depths of my own experiences and observations, my paintings evolve outward, striving to communicate a universal experience. My work celebrates beauty and the authentic pursuit of freedom through color, abstraction and a process that attempts to achieve a space of uninhibited and unconstrained expression.

BIO

Kristie Fujiyama Kosmides is a fourth generation Japanese American and a Hilo, Hawaii-based painter. Kosmides’ practice explores the intimate and ephemeral qualities of transcendent reality through beautifully atmospheric works that honor a sense of that which is greater than herself. Her work aims to touch the hearts of others and manages to make the personal universal through the eternal language of beauty.

Kosmides’ work resides in numerous collections and has been exhibited nationally in galleries in California and Hawaii, as well as internationally in Japan. She earned her BFA from Otis College of Art and Design, where she was also the recipient of the Otis College of Art and Design Thesis Award.
